“Not special. Not chosen. But she’s got magical shoes.

14-year old Karina doesn’t know what she wants, but knows what she’s found—fascinating silver shoes. Fascinating, dangerous, and potentially evil. On the upside, they do bring cool visitors. When a princess invites her to go to Whyland, of course she accepts. There’s that little “let’s destroy the shoes” detail she’s not crazy about, but hey, free trip. Alternate world. Got it?

Perhaps not. Whyland is nothing like she expected. Karina finds herself stuck in a kingdom she doesn’t understand, with no clue on who to trust. Before saving anyone, she’d better save herself—if she figures out how.

For 16-year-old Cayla, destroying the shoes is her much-wanted chance to prove her worth to her father, the king, and gain freedom. It might also be her chance to see Darian after more than one year apart. Does he still like her? Did he ever? But these are not the only questions she finds an answer for. Soon she realizes that all her learning and fighting skills are no match for the truths she’s about to face.”

Step into Magic is a fun YA fantasy adventure. If you like books with friendships between girls, subtle romance, and some mystery, get Step into Magic now.

I absolutely love the cover. It was one of the reasons I signed up for this tour. Just take a look at it.

Review-banner-miss-shanza

When I opened the e-mail from Rockstar Book Tours to sign up for becoming the tour host for this book, I wasn’t sure I would. But after seeing the cover and reading the blurb I knew I had to sign up. Though I wasn’t sure if I would be selected. After a couple of days, I got an e-mail and I was confirmed. Yay! Now fast forwarding to the review.

Karina is a 14-year old girl who is actually ordinary. I mean really really ordinary. This was one of the reasons I liked her. She loves mathematics but hates history. ( Now she is my opposite on this point). She doesn’t know what she wants, but knows what she’s found—fascinating silver shoes. Fascinating, dangerous, and potentially evil. She finds silver shoes in a yard sale. These shoes look metallic but are actually comfortable. Moreover, these shoes are her size. The moment she sees them, she knows she has to buy them. (Noticing some similarity between two people here?)

But it looks like these shoes bring visitors from another dimension. You will have to read the story yourself because I don’t want to spoil.

16 year old Cayla is a princess of Whyland. She is not a typical princess. ( My definition of typical princess is the princess who needs to be saved all the time.)

I loved Cayla. She was a strong and brave girl. She knew how to fight. She is a bit fierce and somewhat stubborn but only from outside.

If you are following my blog, you might have noticed that I don’t review YA. Reason? I don’t usually read YA. This book has made me interested in YA. From now on, I will be giving this genre a chance.

I became more interested in story in the middle of the book.

As the story progressed and when the book came to end I was a bit sad. But this book in a series so no worries. Yay!

I am really looking forward to this series. I am also looking to read more of Day’s work.

It was an amazing read. I am glad I signed up. #ReasonsToBeGlad

If I had to rate it with stars I would give it 5 stars.

Personal-Random-Thoughts-On-Characters

Ayanna: She is adorable and the perfect balance between Karina and Cayla.

Sian: I would like to know more about him.

Things-I-Liked

Below are some of the things I liked:

  • It wasn’t a typical fairy tale or typical story revolving around magic. (Honestly I am starting to hate those).
  • Somewhat female dominated world.
  • Friendship between Karina and Cayla.
  • Some of the dialogues between Cayla and Darian were so interesting and some of them also made me laugh.
  • A princess who knows how to fight and knows pretty much everything.
